Once the dance floor opens, the whole vibe of the day changes. The formalities fade out, the music takes over, and people stop thinking about how they look. That’s when the some of the most memorable, unfiltered moments start happening—and that’s exactly what I’m there for.

Staying Out of the Spotlight

On the dance floor, my goal is to blend in as much as possible. I’m not waving people over or asking them to pose. I’m moving with the crowd, keeping the camera low‑key, and letting the energy unfold around me. When guests forget I’m there, that’s when the best shots happen—messy, funny, chaotic, and completely genuine.

Following the Energy

The dance floor is unpredictable, which is what makes it so much fun to photograph. I’m constantly watching for those quick, unscripted moments: someone belting out the chorus, a group of friends jumping in unison, a split-second reaction to a favourite song. These aren’t the kinds of moments you can plan or recreate. You just have to be ready for

them.

Letting Things Get a Little Wild

This part of the night isn’t about perfect composition or tidy frames. It’s about capturing the feeling of being right there in the middle of it all. I lean into the movement, the blur, the unexpected angles—anything that reflects the energy of the room. The imperfections are often what make the photos feel alive.

Why These Shots Matter

Couples often tell me later that the dance floor photos are some of their favourites because they show the night exactly as it was—no filters, no staging, just pure atmosphere. These images bring back the sound, the movement, the laughter, and the slightly chaotic joy of the reception.

That’s why I shoot the dance floor the way I do. It’s real, it’s unscripted, and it captures the part of the day where everyone finally lets go.
